Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson ought to be at least a little happy about his team’s signing of offensive guard Gabe Jackson.
It’s no secret that the relationship between Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks front office has changed over the course of the last few months.
For the first time, the quarterback was vocal about his frustration with the coaching staff, his offensive authority, and most specifically their inability to protect him. The dual-threat athlete even went so far as to release a list of teams that he’d care to be traded to.
More recently he’s been vocal about his support of the franchise, tweeting his approval of the extension of running back Chris Carson and the fact that Carlos Dunlap would be returning to the team despite having been released a few weeks ago.
Even though it looks like Wilson will be under center for the Seahawks this season, there was some truth to his complaints. By far, the most sacked quarterback in the league, Wilson’s protection gripe definitely had some credence to it. Now it looks like Pete Carroll and the Seahawks are finding some solutions.
Seahawks sign Gabe Jackson to extension after trading for him
According to the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Seahawks have signed former Raiders guard Gabe Jackson. They sent their 2021 fifth-round pick to the Raiders for Jackson last week.
Now Jackson is signing a 3-year, $22.575M extension which includes a $9M signing bonus and $7.075M in additional guarantees. Talk about cashing out.
Jackson started 99 games in seven seasons with the Raiders and is sure to bring experience to the Seahawks’ front line. Wilson has to love the move from a team that is obviously attempting to make him a little happier.
