Madden 22 MVP Edition snubs Aaron Rodgers, the actual MVP of 2020

EA Sports’ Madden 22 will feature two MVP’s on the cover of the MVP edition, and Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is not one of them.

Earlier this week, EA Sports announced that the cover athlete of Madden 22 would be revealed this Thursday. The company ultimately revealed that there were two players that would grace the cover of the MVP edition of the game, and they were Tom Brady of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs.

While the two signal callers were former NFL MVP’s, the current winner of the season-end award in  Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers was not featured on the cover, which had been tradition in recent years.

Packers: Aaron Rodgers snubbed from Madden 22 MVP edition cover

Just last year, Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson graced the cover of Madden 21 shortly after he won the league MVP. In 2019, Mahomes was chosen to be featured on the cover of Madden 20 after he won Most Valuable Player. The streak has ended with Rodgers missing the cut.

Rodgers is coming off a 2020 season where he led the Packers to the NFC Championship Game, where they fell just short to Brady’s Buccaneers. In the regular-season, Rodgers completed 70.7-percent of his passes for 4,299 yards, 48 touchdowns and five interceptions. Yet, those numbers and his third-time winning the MVP did not equate to him being featured on the cover of Madden for the very first instance of his professional career.

This offseason, Rodgers’ relationship with the Packers has deteriorated to the point where the quarterback has no desire to play for the team. Rodgers hinted that his beef is with the front office over their “philosophy” during an appearance on ESPN’s SportsCenter, and his future is in further doubt after he failed to report to mandatory minicamp. To say there is uncertainty in Green Bay is a massive understatement.

Either way, EA Sports made their decision to feature Brady and Mahomes on the cover, which is wise from a business perspective. But let’s hope that they finally fixed franchise mode this time around.
