Patrick Mahomes has proven that he is a sensational football player, but there are three other sports he potentially could’ve been a pro at also.
Four years into his NFL career, Patrick Mahomes has established himself as one of the best quarterbacks in the game. From his rocket arm to his ability to throw on the run, the Texas Tech alum is a different breed under center. He’s already won a Super Bowl, and if he continues this career trajectory, he will have a gold jacket and a bust in Canton when it’s all said and done.
It’s obvious that Mahomes chose the right sport in football, but he had the ability to go pro in other leagues too, if he wanted. The 25-year-old signal-caller could be a professional in these other sports if somehow football hadn’t worked out.
3. Patrick Mahomes could’ve been a Detroit Tiger
Before the Kansas City Chiefs drafted Mahomes, he had a chance to play in the majors. The Detroit Tigers selected him in the 37th round of the 2014 MLB Draft. The Tigers had fun with the pick, creating a mock scouting report of the quarterback in 2020, where they rated his throwing at an “80++,” which is the highest possible rating a player could get. They also added that he threw a player out from the parking lot.
Despite having a professional sports path out of high school, Mahomes decided to attend Texas Tech on a football scholarship. He probably would’ve been a great outfielder given his arm talent, but he’s found greener pastures on the gridiron.
