Dwayne Haskins sets record straight on domestic violence incident

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins took to Instagram to speak on the domestic violence incident.

Hours after reports of free agent cornerback Richard Sherman’s arrest for burglary domestic violence, news broke that Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins’ wife was facing a felony charge of battery and domestic violence resulting in bodily harm following an incident earlier this month. Kalabrya Gondrezick-Haskins is accused of punching the Steelers quarterback in the mouth, reportedly resulting in a missing tooth, a split upper lip and other mouth injuries.

Shortly after the news broke, Haskins took to his Instagram story to say that he did not lose any teeth and to tell his viewers to “not believe everything you read.”

The incident took place at a Las Vegas hotel on July 3, as the couple were renewing their wedding vows after getting married earlier in the year. There was a discrepancy between the couple later in the night regarding going to a nightclub, which escalated into Gondrezick-Haskins allegedly hitting the Steelers quarterback in the mouth.

Gondrezick-Haskins is scheduled for a hearing on Aug. 3.

Haskins entered the NFL in 2019 as a first-round draft pick of the Washington Football Team after shining in his sophomore year as Ohio State’s starting quarterback. However, Haskins was ultimately waived by the team in the middle of the 2020 season due to his less-than-stellar play and off-field issues. In his two years in the league, Haskins threw for 2,804 yards, 12 touchdowns and 14 interceptions while completing 60.1-percent of his passes.

The former Buckeyes quarterback was not on the sidelines for long, as he signed a one-year deal with the Steelers in January. While Ben Roethlisberger enters training camp as the undisputed starter, Haskins has the chance to win the backup quarterback job over Mason Rudolph and Joshua Dobbs.
