With an extra opportunity afforded via the Hall of Fame Game, these three Pittsburgh Steelers are fighting for their jobs this preseason.

The NFL preseason has finally been cut down to three games this year, for most teams. The Pittsburgh Steelers and Dallas Cowboys will play the Hall of Fame Game Thursday night, so players on those two teams who are on the roster bubble get an extra opportunity in game conditions to prove themselves worthy.

Simply put, there won’t be many key or recognizable Steelers or Cowboys on the field Thursday night. Those that do play won’t play much, so pretty much by the second quarter it’ll be mostly a showcase of names no one will  have to remember. But with that showcase, as mentioned, comes an opportunity.

With that in mind, these three Steelers who are competing for their job better take advantage of the opportunity that starts on Thursday night.

3.

Cassius Marsh

OLB, Steelers

The absence of T.J. Watt, as he awaits a contract extension, will create opportunities for others until further notice (not just Thursday night). Marsh played eight games for three teams last season (Colts, Steelers, Jaguars), and he’s mostly been a special teamer during his career with 14 career sacks.

The Steelers took a flier on Quincy Roche in the sixth round of the draft, adding some upside (and competition) to their edge rusher mix. Marsh should not lack opportunity all preseason to show what he can do as a pass rusher, and he enters the Hall of Fame Game trying to get off the wrong side of the roster bubble.
