The Seattle Seahawks need to take care of left tackle Duane Brown or risk making Russell Wilson unhappy at the worst possible time.
Keeping Russell Wilson upright is one of the keys to keeping him happy in Seattle. The Seahawks may have a problem on that front.
Left tackle Duane Brown is not practicing while he seeks a contract extension from the team, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.
“OT Duane Brown, in the last year of a contract scheduled to pay him $10 million this season, also is seeking an extension and isn’t please he hasn’t gotten one, per source,” Schefter tweeted.
Freezing out Duane Brown is sure to make Russell Wilson unhappy
Seattle is holding their seventh practice of training camp on Friday. Not having Brown there along with fellow hold-out Jamal Adams is not exactly the best way to convince their quarterback he’s in the best spot.
Trade rumors have loomed all offseason with Wilson apparently unhappy with the Seahawks’ front office. Meanwhile, Seattle may not be convinced he’s the answer to their offensive struggles.
So long as Wilson is there, making him happy should be the top priority. Leaving him without his most important lineman more than a week into training camp is less than ideal.
Brown, who is attending practices but not participating, is entering his fifth season in Seattle. The Seahawks acquired his services in a trade with Houston in 2017. He’s started 53 games for the team since.
The issue with Brown is his age. He’ll be 36 years old by the end of August, making any extension talks a tight rope. Still, the expectation, for now, seems to be he’ll get a new deal eventually. Seattle shouldn’t wait too long on that one.
