While rosters are being finalized, here are three players the Seahawks should consider adding to the position groups that need it the most.
The NFL season is just nine days away, but it’s still enough time for teams to bolster their rosters with free agency steals.
And it seems the Seattle Seahawks have a distinct advantage: the player-friendly destination always attracts some of the best free agents on the market.
Even though their 53-man roster is set, there’s always a little room for starpower to power to the playoffs — just ask Marshawn Lynch.
Here are three available free agents that could come home to roost at the Hawk’s Nest in 2021.
Adrian Clayborn
Defensive End, Cleveland Browns
Since the departure of Jadeveon Clowney, Seahawks fans and analysts have lamented about the lack of a pass rush, and for good reason. The lack of pressure enabled the worst pass defense in NFL history through the first half of the 2020 season.
While a dearth of talent at cornerback let opposing receivers stack on YAC, it was the lacking pass rush that let opposing quarterbacks sling it for hundreds of yards per game. No offense to Jamal Adams, but the role of pass rusher should never be squarely on the shoulders of a strong safety.
All that being said, the Seahawks still don’t have an elite pass rusher, and while Adrian Clayborn is still in free agency for a reason, he could offer something to a team that still needs to apply pressure. Back in 2020, Clayborn was evaluated by PFF as an underrated Falcons pass rusher who excelled at beating blocks.
