According to a statistic, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes created a lot of his own pressure in 2021.
The Kansas City Chiefs witnessed their AFC West rivals drastically improve this offseason, where it is expected to be a grueling battle for the championship. Despite this, the Chiefs still do have quarterback Patrick Mahome starting under center, and he can make some magical plays that can lead the team to victory.
But is there really an area of concern for Mahomes entering the 2022 season?
The stat provided by the Twitter user below, per Pro Football Focus, shows that Mahomes has created 24.0-percent of his own pressure throughout this past season.
This Patrick Mahomes stat could be an area of concern
The Chiefs did spend last offseason improving their offensive line, which was decimated by injuries heading into Super Bowl 55. Mahomes was pressured 29 times by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense, the most recorded ever in Super Bowl history, per ESPN.
Yet, even with the additions, that stats above show that he created that percentage of pressures.
Mahomes and the Chiefs made it to the AFC Championship Game for the fourth-consecutive season this past year. After a thrilling overtime victory over the Buffalo Bills in the Divisional Round, Mahomes and the Chiefs were sent home by the Cincinnati Bengals. In that game, Mahomes was sacked four times for a loss of 39 yards.
Regardless, as we have seen throughout his four years as Chiefs starting quarterback, you can never count Mahomes out to lead his team to victory. But it will be interesting to see how 2022 goes for Mahomes, considering stud pass rushers like Khalil Mack and Chandler Jones have joined his division and will play them twice each.
