The Philadelphia Eagles made a surprise run to the playoffs last season. If they want to keep competing for division titles, or more, they need to nail the 2020 NFL Draft.
It’s pretty hard to keep track of the Philadelphia Eagles draft picks. They traded away four of their own, yet they stand ready for the draft with eight total selections, six of which are in the top 150. The Eagles have three compensatory picks and gained some choices in trades with the New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcons.
Now, they stare a very important draft right in the face.
Last season, the Eagles overcame myriad injuries to make the postseason. Now, they want to build off that, and there’s no better place to do that than the NFL Draft.
1st Round
21
Trevon Diggs
CB Alabama
Many will instinctively give the Eagles a wide receiver in the first round, but even with the addition of Darius Slay we think cornerback is the right move here, especially with a player like Trevon Diggs still on the board.
We think the top receivers are going to go in the teens (CeeDee Lamb, Jerry Jeudy, Tee Higgins, Henry Ruggs) so instead of getting the pick of the next litter, when there’s going to be similar players in the second round, we think completely solidifying the secondary is the move.
Trevon Diggs is a big cornerback who is a converted wide receiver, meaning he has ball-hawking skills. His stats aren’t eye-popping, but the best cornerbacks don’t get thrown at. So, despite only having four interceptions over his career at Alabama, he’s elite.
With Slay already holding down the top cornerback spot, Diggs could play on the other side and lock down an opponent’s second weapon.
