Josh Allen puts his money where his mouth is.
Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen has become a standout member of Buffalo sports figures thanks to his dual-threat mobility and massive arm strength. In his third year, the fans of Bills Mafia are seeing him progress into what could their first franchise quarterback since Jim Kelly.
Earlier this week, thousands of Bills fans began donating money to Oishei Children’s Hospital, in honor of the passing of Allen’s grandmother. In a classy way, most of the donations were in increments of $17, the same as Allen’s jersey number. On Wednesday, the hospital had more than $300,000 in donations.
How does half a million sound? Thanks to Allen’s $17,000 donation Friday night, the hospital has now surpassed that number in research towards Children’s cancer. Talk about a standout guy right?
Josh Allen is a leader on and off the field
Allen’s breakout season in 2020 might be the reason Bills fans have a future under center. The third-year gunslinger has shown his ability to capitalize in big moments, throwing for 2,587 yards,19 touchdowns and five interceptions in nine games. Last week against the top-tier Seahawks, Allen threw for 415 yards, three touchdowns and scored another on the ground to pick up the 44-34 win.
Without Allen, this could have been a sour start to the new decade. Although a defensive identity, this Bills’ secondary has struggled with inconsistencies in coverage, making their chance to win a Lombardi bleak. Thanks to his well-rounded play, he was named the AFC Offensive Player of the Month in September.
After the city of Buffalo helped donate all this money in his grandmother’s memory, Allen said he never wanted to leave the team. With his donation in stellar fashion, who says the wing capital of the world will let him go?
