Eddie Jackson might not play against the Packers on Sunday Night.
The Chicago Bears, despite their quarterback troubles, are still in the thick of things in the NFC playoff hunt thanks to their deep defense. In a pivotal rivalry game against Aaron Rodgers and company, however, that vaunted defense will try to slow down one of the game’s best without an elite defensive back taking a third of the field away in Eddie Jackson.
The Bears have placed Jackson on the COVID-19 list, leaving his availability for Sunday Night Football against the Green Bay Packers in question.
Eddie Jackson is still one of the best safeties in the game amid all the chaos in Chicago
Despite a standout college career at Alabama, the Bears were able to select Jackson in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft. His ability to cover ground and prevent big plays has already earned him two Pro Bowl spots and one First-Team All-Pro selection. While Jackson hasn’t recorded an interception this season, he remains one of the lynchpins on an elite Bears defense.
Chuck Pagano’s unit is still one of the best in football, as they rank sixth in the league in fewest points allowed despite the fact that their pathetic offense is just 31st in scoring. Nick Foles and Mitch Trubisky have both been doing a poor job of keeping the Bears in the playoff picture.
With Foles nursing an injury against a motivated Packers team looking to get back on the right track after a gutting loss against the Colts, the only hope Matt Nagy has of winning this game is a good, old fashioned, NFC North slugfest. Losing Jackson, who is still Chicago’s best defensive back, makes accomplishing that goal even harder if Jackson is held out.
