Delanie Walker ‘surprised’ Colin Kaepernick isn’t in the NFL

Tennessee Titans tight end Delanie Walker spoke to FanSided on Colin Kaepernick and his partnership with the FedEx Football Fellowship Program.

Delanie Walker has long been one of the more underrated players in the NFL.

Through 14 seasons with the San Francisco 49ers and Tennessee Titans, Walker has eclipsed 800 receiving yards four times, including a career-high 1,088 yards in 2015. A three-time Pro Bowler, Walker has quietly been a top-notch tight end for years, helping the 49ers reach the Super Bowl back in 2012.

During his time in San Francisco, Walker played alongside Colin Kaepernick for two seasons before joining the Titans in free agency. Kaepernick has gained major fame after kneeling during the playing of our national anthem throughout the 2016 season. Despite considerable talent, he hasn’t played since.

“Yeah it surprises me,” Walker said. “I feel like the guy is a starting quarterback in this league. He could go to any team and probably start over half the guys whoa re playing quarterback or be a great backup. It’s a little surprising that he hasn’t had that opportunity but sometimes you can look at it and understand what the problem is. A lot of people don’t address so at the end of the day, it is what it is.”

While Walker’s career continues, he is looking to give back in a meaningful way. one such avenue has been to partner with FedEx and its current initiative.

The FedEx Football Fellowship is a collaboration between FedEx and the USO that helps create on-the-job professional experiences for retiring veterans as they transition from the military to civilian life. This season, two service members are working inside the Titans organization.

“It pretty much changes their lives when they go overseas,” Walker said. “It’s a great opportunity that they do these programs to give them the opportunity that when they come back to the states, they are able to get a job or go on to get training in the profession that they choose.”
