New York Jets

The Jets would be insane to trade Le’Veon Bell or Jamal Adams

Led by Adam Gase, the New York Jets are 5-8. Desperate for talent, why would trading Le’Veon Bell or Jamal Adams make any sense?

Just weeks after New York Jets general manager Joe Douglas reportedly dangled his Pro Bowl safety in trade talks, similar rumors are kicking back up.

Now, SNY’s Ralph Vacchiano has reported that sources believe the Jets may explore shopping not only Jamal Adams this offseason, but Le’Veon Bell as well. Undoubtedly the team’s most important pieces on offense and defense, trading either would be ridiculous.

There is no circumstance in which this should be a thought. The Jets need all the play-making talent they can get. Especially when you draft the guy who you think can become your franchise quarterback.

Jamal Adams will probably receive this rumor poorly. During the trade deadline he was verbally perturbed about the notion that Douglas would even think of trading him.

Adams has been the best player for the Jets all season. Gregg Williams has used him in all roles, specifically as a game-wrecker around the line of scrimmage.

The 24-year-old has played in New York since 2017. He has been named to one Pro Bowl and was on his way to his second this season, gathering 6.5 sacks, one interception and two forced fumbles in 12 games.

Bell has seen a drastic drop off in production and usage during his first year with the Jets. There had been rumblings that Gase was never fully on board with spending on Bell this offseason, and now it appears the head coach will look to trade him to the highest bidder.

The relationship looks to be running thin between Gase and Bell after the running back went bowling the night prior to the Jets’ battle against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. A game in which he was ruled out for.

Again, as is the case with Adams, this is counterproductive. Sam Darnold needs weapons. Why trade an All-Pro running back? Especially when his contract provides a potential out following the 2020 season?

Insanity best describes these rumors. The notion that the Jets want to dump talent is crazy given their current roster. Injuries have plagued the team this year. With a healthier roster next season the Jets can compete, but Bell and Adams need to be around for that to be true.
