Longtime Eagles TE Brent Celek takes shot at rival Cowboys

Longtime Eagles tight end Brent Celek dislikes the Dallas Cowboys just as much as Eagles fans do.

As fans, we typically don’t understand how an athlete can spend several years playing for our favorite team, and then later in his career, play for that same team’s most hated rival. The athletes themselves, however, don’t seem to mind … as long as the price is right.

But that’s not the case for tight end Brent Celek. He spent his entire 11 years in the NFL playing for the Philadelphia Eagles. He’s missed just one game in that span. After 11 seasons, Celek and the Eagles finally reached the pinnacle by winning Super Bowl LII.

Unfortunately for Celek, though, his tenure in Philadelphia came to an end shortly after that, as he was released by the team. Though he’s often said he’s considering retirement at age 33, he has expressed interest in returning to the league in 2018.

But Celek remains loyal to the Eagles, and will not, under any circumstances, even consider the idea of putting on a helmet with a blue star on it. The Dallas Cowboys, one of Philadelphia’s biggest rivals in the NFC East, would be wasting their time even making an offer to Celek.

He made that clear during a radio appearance on 97.5 The Fanatic.

“Hell no,” Celek said. “Do you think I would go play for the Cowboys? Philly is my home. If they offered me $10 million, I still wouldn’t go … I’ve had a few offers, but none of them are worth leaving a city that I have been in for 11 years where I won the Super Bowl in my final year. It wouldn’t feel right to put another uniform on.”

Even though it might not always seem like it, sometimes a rivalry can mean just as much to a player as it does to the fans, and Eagles fans will definitely be appreciative of Celek’s loyalty.

If only Kevin Durant had felt the same way before he left the Oklahoma City Thunder to join the Golden State Warriors.
