Khalil Mack has been traded from the Raiders to the Bears for two first round picks, time to understand who benefits most from the trade.
Early this morning, Adam Schefter reported that Khalil Mack had been traded from the Raiders to the Bears. It marks the end of Mack’s holdout as the Bears are expected to bless him with a huge new contract.
The confirmed details of the trade are that the Raiders have sent Khalil Mack to the Bears in exchange for 2 first round picks. There will likely be more to come in regards to the terms of the trade, but that is what these Winners & Losers will be based on.
Winner: Vic Fangio
By no means is Vic Fangio disappointed with what just happened. As the Bears defensive coordinator, he has been blessed with a talented secondary and an extremely talented rookie linebacker. The only question mark was whether or not his defense would be able to consistently get after the quarterback.
No longer is that a question. He now gets to unleash Khalil Mack on opposing defenses as part of an outstanding looking front 7.
That front 7 will stop the run and make opposing quarterbacks very uncomfortable. Throw in the fact that the secondary will give them all the time in the world to get after quarterbacks and the Bears defense is one to be reckoned with.
The biggest thing for Fangio though is having bookend pass rushers. While previously, defenses could shift their blocking towards whatever side Leonard Floyd was on. That hindered Floyd’s growth and hurt the Bears pass rush. Despite this, the Bears managed to still have the 8th best adjusted sack rate in 2017. Imagine the fun Fangio can have now.
