Tyler Eifert suffers disgusting ankle injury (Video)

The Cincinnati Bengals lost their starting tight end on Sunday, with Tyler Eifert sustaining a gruesome ankle injury against the Atlanta Falcons.

It’s impossible not to feel terrible for Tyler Eifert. The Bengals tight end reached the Pro Bowl in 2015 as a third-year player, catching 13 touchdowns. In said Pro Bowl, Eifert hurt his ankle and missed eight games in 2016, starting only twice. Last season, Eifert was hampered by back injuries, starting zero games and being dressed for two.

Now, finally on the field and looking good, Eifert’s season might well be over. In the third quarter at Mercedes-Benz Stadium against the Atlanta Falcons, Eifert caught a pass and turned upfield before having his ankle landed on. The result was a disgusting injury that would turn any decent person’s stomach.

With Eifert out, the Bengals are going to be increasingly reliant on the trio of John Ross, A.J. Green and Tyler Boyd to carry the passing game. Green has made the Pro Bowl in each of his NFL seasons, while Ross is starting to become he player Cincinnati believed it was drafting in the first round a year ago.

As for Eifert, one wonders how many times he is going to continue getting back after these injuries. It’s incredibly unfortunate that his woes started at the Pro Bowl, and for the former Notre Dame Fighting Irish star, it seems his body won’t stop betraying him.

If you own Eifert on fantasy teams, the wise move is to wait and see if he’s definitely out long term. If so, there are a bevy of options who could be viable as a starter including guys like Cameron Brate, Charles Clay, Jesse James and others.
