The football gods have blessed us with a matchup of the league’s best offense against the league’s best defense this week. The war of words has already begun.
The Kansas City Chiefs have the NFL’s highest-scoring offense so far this year. The only team that’s been able to remotely slow them down has been the Denver Broncos, and the Chiefs still scored 27 points on them. Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill leads the team in receiving yards and has worked hard to turn himself into a true receiver since joining the league.
On the other side, the Jacksonville Jaguars have the league’s best scoring defense this season. Granted two of the four teams they’ve played have some of the worst offenses in the league. The Jags defense is lead by cornerback Jalen Ramsey, who is one of the league’s best corners.
This week’s matchup will pit the fastest man in the NFL against arguably the league’s best corner. Who will prevail remains to be seen, but the war of words has already begun. It’s mostly been Ramsey doing all the talking as of late.
Earlier this week Hill was asked about his matchup with Ramsey this week, and said he was looking forward to the challenge, and even said Ramsey was “top dog” this season amongst the league’s cornerbacks.
When Ramsey was asked about Hill’s comments he made sure to let everyone know about Hill’s two All-Pro selections as a return specialist, and that this wasn’t a wide receiver vs cornerback matchup. Hopefully, Ramsey actually does see Hill as a wide receiver, and he’s just playing possum because if not then he might not be a big fan of what could happen on Sunday.
Let’s not forget Hill was seventh in receiving yards last year even though he was 30th in targets. If Hill actually got the same amount of targets as his own teammate Travis Kelce last year he could have ended up with close to 2,000 yards.
Ramsey is one of if not the best press man corners, and Hill probably has the best release against press coverage. Something has to give on Sunday.
