Malcolm Butler can win more than just a game on Sunday

The Tennessee Titans will face the New Englands Patriots this Sunday, and Titans corner Malcolm Butler will look to win more than just a game this Sunday.

This Sunday’s matchup between the Titans and the Patriots will have plenty of coverage due to Titans cornerback Malcolm Butler facing his former team for the first time since bolting in free agency.

In Butler’s last game with the Patriots, the two-time Super Bowl winner and the hero of Super Bowl XLIX didn’t register a single defensive snap, and the controversy of Butler’s benching lingered on-even after he signed with the Titans.

So far this season, Butler hasn’t played up to standard, and this past Monday night against the Dallas Cowboys he was scored on by Amari Cooper and Allen Hurns. There has even been a discussion to bench Butler,  but Titans head coach Mike Vrabel has insisted on sticking with his $61 million prized corner.

For Butler, performance and Super Bowl aside, this game will perhaps mean more to him than any game in his career outside of the two Super Bowls he won. In Butler’s eyes, the Patriots gave up on him, and a chance to prove that Belichick made a mistake of letting him walk is on Butler’s horizon.

)n the flipside, as Colin Cowherd stated on his show The Herd  Tuesday, Butler’s performance this season perhaps has already proved that Belichick makes no mistakes when he lets a player walk. This season, Butler has allowed 39 catches on 54 targets for 618 yards and seven touchdowns. Butler has one interception to his name, but his overall play has warranted him an average rating of 51.9 on Pro Football Focus, which slates him as the 98th-best cornerback in the league. This Sunday grants Butler the perfect opportunity to right the ship for this season.

If not, Butler is well aware of how unforgiving the NFL is, and can only hope he can return next season.
