It’s Week 10 and the playoff picture is starting to come into focus, which teams on the brink need a win the most this weekend?
Last week’s five teams that needed a win went 3-2, with only the Washington Redskins and Baltimore Ravens failing to pull out a victory. To be fair, the Redskins were facing a red-hot Atlanta Falcons team and the Ravens were simply outmatched by the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Houston Texans, New England Patriots, and the New Orleans Saints all came up with big wins over quality opponents.
At this juncture of the season, wins carry just a bit more weight than earlier in the year. Mostly because there is less time to recover from a hiccup, but nonetheless.
This week, there are fewer big-ticket games, but there are numerous games that are important for some fringe contenders. Beginning with the reigning AFC South champion, lets look at which teams need a win the most this week.
5. Jacksonville Jaguars
This season has been wildly disappointing for a Jaguars team that looked stacked enough to go to the Super Bowl. I guess the writing was on the wall and people should have seen this implosion coming, ya know, since Blake Bortles is still the quarterback?
Regardless, the Jaguars have too much talent to be 3-5 sitting at the bottom of their division. Now, I think it is totally possible that once they get running back Leonard Fournette back, they can go on a run and push for a playoff spot. But they are going to need to shore up some issues and start doing the little things better. Obviously injuries have been the story thus far, but coming off a bye, the Jags really need a victory.
Therefore, it has to be the perfect time to play the Colts, who are currently 3-5 as well, but have significantly less talent on their roster. The Jaguars need a win badly, and their opponent is by no means intimidating. If they cannot take care of business this week, they may as well throw in the towel on the 2018 season.
