Los Angeles Rams, New Orleans Saints

Marcus Peters tells Sean Payton to keep talking smack

Some friction between Marcus Peters and Sean Payton might add a little drama to what would already be a tremendous NFC title game between the Rams and the Saints.

Week 9 of the 2018 NFL season probably wasn’t the best week of the year for Marcus Peters, the cornerback for the Los Angeles Rams.

His Rams, who had previously seemed invincible at 8-0, suffered their first loss of the season at the hands of the New Orleans Saints. It wasn’t just a defeat, though; Drew Brees, Michael Thomas and the New Orleans offense absolutely torched the Los Angeles defense for 45 points, with 35 of them coming in the first half.

Getting run over by the Saints was rough for Peters, and it also didn’t help that his defensive unit allowed Thomas to haul in 211 receiving yards on 12 receptions. As a cornerback, with a job description that says he’s supposed to prevent things like that from happening, it was undoubtedly a long afternoon for Peters.

Thomas performed so well that his head coach, Sean Payton, may have even taken a subtle shot at the job, or lack thereof, that Peters did defending him — something that Peters didn’t appreciate too much.

If Peters and the Rams do see the Saints again this season, it will most likely be in the NFC Championship Game. Los Angeles and New Orleans are the two best teams in the conference, and Sunday’s dominant offensive exhibit proved it.

A matchup between these two teams with a trip to the Super Bowl on the line wouldn’t just be a big deal for the players, but it would be something NFL fans in general would love to see. And if there is any added friction due to a little bit of smack-talking between Peters and Payton, well, then that will just make it all the more entertaining.

Hopefully, these two teams do get to meet up again in the playoffs. And if that potential playoff game is anything like the game they played in the regular season, we will be in for a classic.
