Mitchell Trubisky could be returning in time for biggest game of the year

The Chicago Bears have gone 1-1 during Mitchell Trubisky’s absence, but they need him back for their Week 14 game against the Los Angeles Rams.

Chicago Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky has been inactive for the team’s last two games with a shoulder injury, but he could be on the verge of making his return to the starting lineup as soon as this week.

At least, head coach Matt Nagy is confident that he might be ready to go for Sunday, per Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune.

“I feel good about where he’s at,” Nagy said, via Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune. “He’s been throwing the ball well. I feel good about it. I’ve gotta see it.

“I feel strong that he will play but I gotta see more.”

The fact that Nagy feels good about Trubisky’s status for Sunday is tremendous news for Chicago fans, because the Bears will be playing their biggest game of the season under the bright lights of Sunday Night Football.

They will welcome the best team in all of football, the 11-1 Los Angeles Rams, to Soldier Field in Week 14. This Bears team has faced its share of hurdles during the 2018 season, but this will undoubtedly be their biggest test yet.

For a game like this, they aren’t going to want backup quarterback Chase Daniel out there doing the signal calling. They need Trubisky back, and they need him now.

The 32-year-old Daniel was a suitable replacement during the two games Trubisky missed, even picking up a Thanksgiving Day win in Detroit. Last week, however, the magic wasn’t all there for Daniel as he threw two interceptions in an overtime loss to the lowly New York Giants.

Against the Rams, Daniel wouldn’t give the Bears much of a chance. But Trubisky is their franchise quarterback; he’s young, and this season he has really started to come into his own as a star in this league.

When he plays well, he gives the Bears a chance to beat anybody. And playing the Rams (a warm weather team) on a cold Chicago night in which the temperatures should be somewhere in the 20s or 30s gives the Bears an opportunity for what would be a pretty big upset.

Hopefully, the second-year quarterback gets officially cleared to play, because we’ll have another excellent Sunday night showdown on our hands if he does.
