From last to first and back to last, the Jacksonville Jaguars were the only team in the AFC South with a losing record in 2018. What additions could help?
In 2017, the Jacksonville Jaguars won a division title for the first time since 1999. This after winning only three games the previous season. Doug Marrone’s team owned a 10-point lead in the fourth quarter of the AFC title game at Foxborough. But the New England Patriots rallied for a 24-20 victory.
And the team really hasn’t been the same since. The club did open ’18 with three wins in their first four games. But it all came apart suddenly and the results were 10 losses in their final 12 games. Now the team owns the seventh overall pick in April’s draft. But what about free agency? Could these five players (all on offense) be on the radar of general manager David Caldwell and vice president of football operations Tom Coughlin?
5. G Mike Iupati (Arizona Cardinals)
He certainly has his share of experience. So can some of that savvy that four-time Pro Bowl guard Mike Iupati has brought to both the San Francisco 49ers and Arizona Cardinals possibly be an asset to a Jacksonville offense took a big step backwards this past season?
The 31-year-old performer was limited 10 games and starts this past season. And Iupati missed all but one game the previous year. But this is hardly a long-term solution and more in regards to the fact that right guard A.J. Cann could test free agency (unless the Jaguars re-sign him or franchise him). Reserves Patrick Omameh and Josh Walker will also see their contracts expire on March 13. Iupati could give the team some quality play and be the bridge for a young guard.
