The 2019 NFL free agent class doesn’t have the most illustrious crop of cornerbacks, but here are the top five corners that are available.
Last year’s free agent class featured the likes of Malcolm Butler, Trumaine Johnson, Kyle Fuller and Richard Sherman. All of which are true, number-one corners who got paid like that.
Whether or not they ended up living up to those contracts is another story, as Fuller was the only one of those corners that performed at a high-level. Regardless, Sherman, Butler and Johnson have the potential to bounce back in 2019 and find their lockdown forms once again.
The same may be hard to say about the 2019 free agent class. the corners within this year’s bunch of free agents are good, but not the caliber of the above players from last year’s class.
Depth is a word that can describe the cornerbacks that teams will sift through this offseason. Bashaud Breeland, David Amerson and Bradley Roby are perfect examples. They will provide a nice number-two cornerback, or possibly a nickel substitute.
Players coming off injury, or often-injured players, is a theme too. Jason Verrett is entering the market after missing all of last season with an injury. Ronald Darby has been one heck of a player when he’s been on the field but staying healthy has been an obstacle.
With all of that in mind, there are still a few cornerbacks that can be major upgrades for teams.
