5 players the Green Bay Packers should move up to draft

The Packers head into the NFL draft with two first round picks. Here are five guys Green Bay should target if they elect to trade up.

Aaron Rodgers isn’t going to play like a Pro Bowler forever. That means the Packers need to do everything in their power to help him win a Super Bowl next season. Having two first round picks in the upcoming NFL draft gives Green Bay’s front office the ability to do just that.

Conventional wisdom suggests the Packers will stay put and make their selections at No. 12 and No. 30. Getting two potential starters could certainly upgrade the roster.

This piece will examine what might happen if the Packers get really bold and try to jump up in the draft. It’s very possible that coming away with one star might be more valuable to Green Bay than selecting two above average players. If the Packers do go that route, they should target one of the following five players.

5. Devin White

The Packers paid big money to bring in Za’Darius Smith in free agency but they still could use another real difference maker in their linebacking corps. Coming out of this draft with Devin White would give them a potential Pro Bowler at middle linebacker.

The challenge, of course, is that White is in contention to be a top five selection at this point in tihe pre-draft process. The Packers would have to package their No. 12 pick and something else of value to move up to grab the former LSU star. It would be an expensive move, but it would pay off if White can come in and become a real disruptive force during his rookie season.

Moving up to grab an inside linebacker would really go against NFL conventional wisdom, but White might be talent enough to make the gamble pay off.
