While most of the NFL world was in shock at the Giants reaching for Daniel Jones with the sixth pick of the draft, Dwayne Haskins couldn’t help but find the humor in the situation.
Over the past few years, we have truly entered the bizarro world in the NFL. The New York Giants, long regarded as a model franchise who does things the right way, have gone out of their way to make incredibly questionable decisions that have turned a proud team into a laughingstock.
The latest odd choice came tonight when the Giants passed on Josh Allen with the sixth overall pick in the draft to select Duke quarterback Daniel Jones. Jones, who was the fourth best passer on Mel Kiper’s Big Board, also generated this reaction from fellow prospect Dwayne Haskins.
That’s right, Dwayne Haskins was actually laughing at the Giants’ decision to take Daniel Jones ahead of him in the draft. This situation got even funnier when the Giants’ NFC East rivals, the Washington Redskins, drafted Haskins with the 15th pick.
While Haskins did have superior talent on his team, his one season as a starter was far superior to any of Jones’ three years at the helm for Duke. In essence, Haskins knows that he is a far better quarterback than Jones, so he found a bit of humor in the fact that the Giants clearly couldn’t figure that out.
Haskins grew up a Giants fan as well, but now he is going to be under center for the Redskins and look to beat his favorite childhood team twice a year for the foreseeable future. The storylines all but write themselves and the fact that he could help Washington beat up the Giants for a while now is no laughing matter for New York fans.
