Chiefs fans cringe as Patrick Peterson shows up to Cardinals OTAs

A collective sigh went up across Chiefs Kingdom with the news that Patrick Peterson showed up today at Cardinals OTAs.

Chiefs Twitter was buzzing when Antonio Bryant, a former NFL wide receiver who is awful at breaking news, started a rumor that Patrick Peterson would soon be traded to the Chiefs.

There are many reasons why many Chiefs fans got excited about this potential trade, but most obviously their secondary was putrid last season. So if they added a top-tier talent like Peterson, it would immediately boost their defense into another tier. Not since it had Marcus Peters has the team had a dominant cornerback, and pairing Peterson with safety Tyrann Mathieu in the back end could give the Chiefs a legitimate secondary.

Seth Keysor‘s reaction was the common sentiment for Chiefs fans:

But alas, unless General Manager Brett Veach makes a move during the season it appears that Peterson is going to remain an Arizona Cardinal. Though he hadn’t participated in any offseason activities to this point, and although earlier in the offseason he had made thinly-veiled comments denigrating the Cardinals front office, today he showed up to Cardinals OTAs.

Perhaps he wants to get back in the good graces of his teammates and the front office after he was suspended six games for a violation of the performance-enhancing drug policy. Whatever the reason he showed up, Chiefs fans cannot be pleased.
