Fantasy Football: Wish List No. 1, Nick Chubb

Nick Chubb headlines my wish list for 2019, due to his elite vision, quick processing, hip fluidity, and footwork.

When the Browns drafted Nick Chubb with the 35th-overall selection of the 2018 NFL Draft, many were confused. The Browns had just signed Carlos Hyde in free agency, with initial reports stating that Hyde would receive over $15 million for three years. Clearly they believed in Hyde, so why were they spending such high draft capital on another running back?

However, for those who had been studying the incoming rookie class, and certainly for those who followed college football, the only question was how long it would be until Chubb took over the starting job.

Although Hyde was also chosen in the second-round back in the 2014 NFL Draft, the talent gap between the two was obvious to those who study such things. I personally felt that Chubb would rise to the top of the depth chart at some point, but I wasn’t sure if it would happen in his rookie season. Clearly, he vastly outperformed my expectations.

With this series of articles, I intend to highlight a few players who are on my personal “wish list” for the 2019 season – players I will have a lot of stock in across my redraft leagues. Chubb headlines that list.

He is in a great situation in Cleveland, with a good young quarterback and receivers in the passing game that defenses have to account for – taking away the option to stack the box against the run. But the primary reason I want Chubb on my teams is not because of his situation – it’s because he is incredibly talented. He is one of the best pure runners in the NFL already, and for the rest of the article we will dive into some plays which highlight why that is the case.
