5 bold predictions for Patriots in 2019

The Patriots won the Super Bowl last season, but that doesn’t mean things will go exactly according to plan for Bill Belichick in 2019.

Bill Belichick might be one of the best planners in the NFL. The Patriots’ head coach does a better job of preparing for potential opponents than anyone else in the game. That doesn’t mean he can accurately predict everything that will happen for New England this season.

This piece is about projecting some extraordinary things that might happen for the defending Super Bowl champions. Something like projecting Tom Brady to make a Pro Bowl appearance does not merit consideration. There’s a real emphasis on the term “bold.” Without delay, jump right in with a gutsy call about a Patriots rookie turning in a really big season.

5. Chase Winovich will notch double-digit sacks

Every year there are certain draft prospects that seem to fall into the lap of the perfect franchise for their development. Winovich to the Patriots just seems like a match made in heaven.

New England doesn’t hand out big contracts to edge rushers. That’s why Trey Flowers is now a Detroit Lion. The acquisition of Michael Bennett will be really big for Belichick’s defensive front, but Deatrich Wise is a major question mark on the other side.

That will give Winovich the chance to step in and earn a starting job. If he can crack the starting lineup, he’s going to see a lot of one on one match-ups with Bennett drawing double teams. The idea of the former Michigan star turning all of those opportunities into a 10 sack season isn’t outside the realm of possibility.
