The Kansas City Chiefs training camp will begin on July 27, and there are several intriguing position battles in all three phases of the game, including two with a great deal of fantasy football relevance.
Thanks to Patrick Mahomes’ position-transforming greatness at quarterback, the Kansas City Chiefs have immediately become perennial Super Bowl contenders. In Mahomes’ first season under center, the Chiefs were literally a coin toss away from dethroning the New England Patriots as AFC Champions and punching their ticket to the Super Bowl against Sean McVay’s Los Angeles Rams.
Though the Chiefs fell short, they will be back with a vengeance in 2019. Hopefully, they’ll do so with an improved defense, as they completely overhauled their pass rushers, are working on extending superstar defensive lineman Chris Jones and even tweaked their secondary by bringing in veterans Tyrann Mathieu and Bashaud Breeland.
But some of the Chiefs’ most interesting position battles are on the offensive side of the ball, where Damien Williams will attempt to hold off Carlos Hyde to remain the Chiefs featured back. These battles will be of plenty of interest to fantasy football owners, as the Chiefs offense is the most lucrative goldmine for fantasy points.
There’s a position battle for everyone in Kansas City; there will even be a battle at the punter position. Here are the five biggest battles heading into training camp 2019.
