The Detroit Lions are looking to make something of a lost season by drafting incredibly high in the 2020 NFL Draft. This is where we think they’ll go with their nine draft picks.

With the third-overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft, there’s a lot that can happen with the Detroit Lions pick. They decided to bring back their entire staff, despite seemingly taking a step back last season. After a tie against the Arizona Cardinals, things started to fall off the rails, and the team just never got going.

Matt Stafford got hurt. Matt Patricia’s hold as the head coach seemed to dislodge more as the season went on. Nothing went right for the Lions.

The Lions have spent money this offseason. They signed former New England Patriots (Patricia’s former team) Jamie Collins and Danny Shelton. They also signed Desmond Trufant to replace the traded away Darius Slay. Then, they added Chase Daniel to back up Matthew Stafford.

Still, those moves only provided a little bit of relief for the very many holes in this roster. If they are going to eventually compete in a division with three teams that made the playoffs in the last two seasons, they need to hit just about every pick in this draft. With nine picks, they can reshape the roster in the blink of an eye. With both Matt Patricia and Bob Quinn both likely fighting for their jobs, they can’t afford another lost season.

The one way this Lions team can excel this season is to get as much out of their draft picks as possible. That means we expect them to get the most NFL ready players possible. It all starts with the third-overall pick, where they are going to get one of the best surprises the Lions have had in a decade.
