With a change at quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, some people think wide receiver Mike Evans will be devalued in fantasy. Here’s why they’re wrong.
So the Tampa Bay Buccaneers landed Tom Brady in 2020 NFL free agency. That’s pretty cool, right? Unless your favorite team is the New England Patriots or plays is a rival team of the Buccaneers in the NFC South, there is a lot to like about Brady taking his talents to the Florida Gulf Coast in the twilight of his illustrious career. However, there are consequences with his arrival.
One player who some fantasy football experts believe could be negatively affected by Brady going to Tampa Bay is Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans. The idea behind this is Evans had a great rapport with former Buccaneers starting quarterback Jameis Winston for the last half decade, always coming up with those highly contested deep balls down the middle of the field.

The Fantasy Footballers look at how the Brady signing impacts Evans and the rest of the Buccaneers receiving corps, explaining why Evans will be the one who is undervalued entering 2020 fantasy football drafts. As strange as it sounds, Evans will be undervalued when compared to his receiving corps teammate Chris Godwin in this revamped Buccaneers offense with Brady.
Evans was a huge beneficiary of the Bruce Arians’ “no risk it, no biscuit” offense last year. He also had great success catching balls well beyond the sticks in the Dirk Koetter Air Coryell before that with Winston slinging him the pigskin. Godwin has come on of late after being a day-two pick out of Penn State. He projects as a guy who will become a superstar with Brady throwing him the ball.
Overall, the Buccaneers have arguably the best wide receiver pairing in football. Though Brady doesn’t have a Matthew Stafford-level hose for a right arm, he can still make plenty of big throws downfield. Three big reasons Brady came to the Buccaneers are to play in Arians’ offense, throw to guys like Evans and Godwin down the field and to play in a warm-weather city like Tampa.
Ultimately, Evans is a no-brainer WR1 in fantasy football next year. He may not come off the board as quickly as Godwin, but Evans can be a huge reason you win fantasy football games next year. While Godwin is a tad overvalued entering the 2020 fantasy season, take advantage of Evans being a tad undervalued. You will not regret picking him up in the second or third round this fall.
