5 breakout stars to watch for Cleveland Browns in 2020

The Cleveland Browns come off yet another disappointing season. What five performers could raise their games this year and help the team make a playoff run?

They own the longest current playoff drought in the league. They sport a horrific 101-234-1 win-loss record since returning to the league is an expansion team back in 1999. And now the Cleveland Browns have a new head coach once again in former Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator Kevin Stefanski. He will be the 12th different sideline leader for the organization in 22 years.

Last offseason, the franchise was extremely active – particularly in the trade market and obtained former New York Giants Odell Beckham Jr. and Olivier Vernon. The new head coach was Freddie Kitchens, who played a big role in the team’s second-half resurgence in 2018. And quarterback Baker Mayfield was expected to better in his second NFL season.

But it all came apart and by year’s end, it was yet another losing season (6-10) for this club. Could these five players can have big years and propel the Browns to a successful 2020 campaign?

5. WR Taywan Taylor

The Browns have a talented pair wide receivers in Jarvis Landry and Odell Beckham Jr. And perhaps this is the year, under new head coach Kevin Stefanski, that the team’s passing attack finally takes wing. The addition of free agent tight end Austin Hooper should help as well.

But who is truly Cleveland’s third wideout? Talented Antonio Callaway’s off-the-field issues cost him dearly and his future in pro football is hazy at best. So what about former Tennessee Titans’ third-round pick Taywan Taylor, who the team picked up in 2019 for a draft choice? He played in only one game for the Browns a season ago but flashed a lot of potential in Nashville. And with a new head coach in Stefanski, the 25-year-old performer will have a fresh start and will also have an opportunity to learn a little more from the talented pass-catchers on this roster.
