Bill O’Brien has made another wide receiver trade this offseason, acquiring Brandin Cooks from the Los Angeles Rams for a few picks. He’s an animal!
There are teams that make good trades and then there’s the Houston Texans.
Head coach and de facto general manager Bill O’Brien never saw a bad trade he didn’t like. Weeks after sending arguably his best player in wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins to the Arizona Cardinals for David Johnson‘s bad contract and a second-round pick, O’Brien went back into the wide receiver trade market and got burned again most horrendously.
The Houston Chronicle’s John McClain reports Houston traded for Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Brandin Cooks in exchange for the No. 57 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft and a fourth-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Why is the McNair Family allowing O’Brien to keep pressing the red button? Does he secretly prefer the other Clemson star quarterback still in college? What’s next? Is he going to trade J.J. Watt to the Pittsburgh Steelers to reunite him with his younger brothers for a seventh-round pick?
There is madness and then there is whatever the hell O’Brien is doing this offseason. Make it stop. Obviously, Twitter had SO many things to say about his latest blockbuster of a trade. Oh, boy…
Okay, now that we’ve processed all of that, get this. Not even two hours before the trade with the Rams went down, the Texans official Twitter account gave us a word search to distract us from the deal that was about to happen. A word search? A freaking word search! Even a seven-year-old playing Madden knew this was a bad deal, but why not the Texans front office?
So what we’ve learned through all of this keep your friends close, your enemies closer and Bill O’Brien on speed dial if you want to make a trade. He is getting worked worse than that one time Sacramento Kings general manager Vlade Divac didn’t understand how a mid-level exception works in the NBA and sent players like Nik Stauskas to the Philadelphia 76ers for next to nothing.
To learn from a mistake, you must first admit that you made a mistake. It doesn’t seem like the Texans are all that interested in being honest with themselves. They’re more concerned with making bad trades with wide receivers and tweeting out word searches.
We literally cannot wait to see how O’Brien works an NFL Draft war room virtually in two weeks.
