New England Patriots, NFL Draft

Watch out for the Patriots making a huge trade in the 2020 NFL Draft

After losing legendary quarterback Tom Brady to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the New England Patriots could make a bold move in the 2020 NFL Draft.

So far, this has been a season of uncertainty and transition for the New England Patriots, who will look to head coach and general manager Bill Belichick to guide them in a world without Tom Brady.

Although the future Hall-of-Fame quarterback regressed in 2019, he did so with the worst supporting cast of his career in New England – and that’s saying something. The Patriots still have questions to answer on the offensive side of the ball beyond quarterback, but with Brady gone, the position has immediately become their top need.

Belichick is fully expected to address the position in the 2020 NFL Draft, and he could do so boldly.

An NFC scout recently told Bleacher Report’s Mike Freeman that he feels this could be the year the Patriots pull off a blockbuster move on draft day. The scout doesn’t buy the Patriots heading into the 2020 season with the unproven Jarrett Stidham and career backup Brian Hoyer at quarterback

Anonymous scouts often make their voices heard in the build-up to the draft, but it’s hard not to agree with this scout’s insight.

First, it would be quite a shock to see the Patriots head into the season with Stidham and Hoyer as the quarterbacks. Hoyer is the definition of a veteran backup who is meant to be a safety net and help develop a future starter, while Stidham doesn’t seem to have the traits as a passer to be a starter in this league – let alone a franchise quarterback.

The Patriots have a strong defense and can build a running game to support a young quarterback, just as they did when Brady won Super Bowls early in his career. Belichick knows the importance of getting a rebuild right, and he’s not afraid to make bold trades. Don’t count out Belichick sending picks and going all-in on the right guy at quarterback.

Watch out for the possibility of a huge trade. And yes, watch out for Tua Tagavailoa, who could be the next man to lead the New England offense.
