Jake Fromm issues statement apologizing for racist text messages while at Georgia

Bills quarterback Jake Fromm apologized for racist texts.

Buffalo Bills rookie quarterback Jake Fromm apologized for racist text messages that were sent last year after they resurfaced online on Thursday morning.

Screenshots of a text conversation with Fromm who was then the Georgia football starting quarterback said “guns are good” but added, “Just make them very expensive so only elite white people can get them haha.”

The screenshots of the text conversation with Fromm, a native of Warner Robins, Georgia, can be seen in the tweets below:

Fromm instantly was trending on Twitter as he became the latest high-profile football player at the center of a controversy involving race. Yesterday it was New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees who said he doesn’t accept people kneeling during the national anthem because it’s disrespectful to the flag and his grandparents who fought in the military.

Today, it’s Fromm who was a fifth-round pick who may not even make the 53-man roster after igniting this controversy. Bills starting quarterback Josh Allen had to issue an apology after he was drafted when racist tweets he sent when he was in high school were discovered.

“I am extremely sorry that I chose to use the words ‘elite white people’ in a text message conversation,” Fromm wrote. “Although I never meant to imply that I am an ‘elite white person,’ as stated later in the conversation, there’s no excuse for that word choice and sentiment. While it was poor, my heart is not. Now, more than ever, is the time for support and togetherness and I stand against racism 100%. I promise to commit myself to being a part of the solution in this country. I addressed my teammates and coaches in a team meeting today and I hope they see this incident is not representative of the person I am. Again, I’m truly sorry for my words and actions and humbly ask for forgiveness.”
