Dwayne Haskins has a good idea for his team’s new name.
The NFL franchise in Washington D.C. is preparing to change the team’s name. It’s been a long time coming but finally appears that the name will be changed ahead of the 2020 NFL season. So with only a little bit of time, before training camp begins and the NFL season begins in earnest, there’s only so much time to think of a new name to get on merchandise and before the team gets back to work.
Well, quarterback Dwayne Haskins already has one in mind.
Haskins would like his team to be called the Washington Redtails, in honor of the Tuskegee Airmen, who were the first African-American military fighter pilots in the armed forces and had a crimson tail on their planes.
Dwayne Haskins is a fan of the Washington Redtails name.
It’s a perfect name and one that’s picking up steam among other players and the fan base.
Washington head coach Ron Rivera said as part of the team’s statement on reviewing the team name that honoring the military was an aspect they were considering. This would check off that if the franchise, owner Daniel Snyder especially, signs off on the new name for the franchise.
The Washington Redtails does have a nice ring to it.
And it’s helpful to have the endorsement of the team’s quarterback the franchise hopes will develop into their franchise quarterback this year. The second-year quarterback out of Ohio State has remade his body in this elongated offseason and appears to be in the best shape of his life. That’s a sentence that gets said and written a lot this time of year, but Haskins is at the top of the list of breakout candidates in the NFL.
If Haskins is helpful in getting the Redtails name adopted, he’ll forever be remembered as a Redtails legend for his impact on the franchise.
