Mike Shanahan has been selected as the Broncos’ 2020 Ring of Fame honoree.
Mike Shanahan will always be a Denver Broncos legend. Now, he’ll be immortalized forever. On Tuesday morning, the organization announced that Shanahan, the all-time winningest coach in franchise history, will be the newest member of the team’s Ring of Fame.
Shanahan led the team to its first two Super Bowl championships and is only one of 13 NFL coaches to ever bring home the Lombardi Trophy multiple times. He was a no-brainer selection to enter the Ring of Fame, and he’ll officially be enshrined in 2021, as the team will push his ceremony back a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mike Shanahan has more than 200 wins with the Denver Broncos.
“Mike Shanahan is the greatest coach in Denver Broncos history and among the winningest coaches of all-time,” President and CEO Joe Ellis said in a team statement. “He brought an unmatched standard and intensity as head coach, leading this franchise to its first two Super Bowl wins and building the Broncos into perennial contenders.
“Few coaches have had more of an impact with one organization — as both a head coach and assistant — than Mike Shanahan over the course of his two decades with the Broncos.”
In his 14 seasons as Denver’s head coach, Shanahan recorded 146 wins, of course including the two victories in the Super Bowl. Remember, he was also an assistant with the team for seven years. In total, including his time as an assistant, Shanahan has 221 wins with Denver to his name, the most of any Broncos coach.
After his days with the Broncos, Shanahan spent four seasons as head coach of the Washington Redskins before calling it a career. He’ll always be known for his time in Denver, though, where fans have no problems saying he’s one of the best coaches in NFL history.
