The Las Vegas Raiders are trading former second round pick, P.J. Hall, to the Minnesota Vikings for a conditional draft pick.
The Raiders were planning on releasing P.J. Hill and losing the former second-round pick for nothing. However, Raiders general manager Mike Mayock was able to get something in return for the draft bust.
According to Ian Rapoport, the Raiders traded Hill to the Minnesota Vikings in exchange for a conditional seventh-round draft pick.
Hall never lived up to the billing as a second-round pick
The Raiders were never able to develop Hall into the type of player the organization hoped he could become after spending the No. 57 pick on the Sam Houston State product in the 2018 NFL Draft.
In two seasons with the Raiders, Hall started six games as a rookie and doubled that total to 12 games last year.
Hall had 26 combined tackles last year with five of them coming for a loss and his first 1.5 career sacks.
The Raiders are fortunate to recoup something in return for Hall even if it is a seventh-round pick. At the least, the Raiders will be able to get a player that is a better fit for the team and organization under Mayock and head coach Jon Gruden.
For the Vikings, they are able to give Hall the proverbial change of scenery with the hopes of tapping into his potential that once made him a second-round pick. It’s worth the roll of the dice to trade a conditional draft pick to see if he can show signs of being that type of player in the middle of the Vikings defensive line.
And if he doesn’t work out, it only costs them a pick at the end of the draft. And with several defensive tackles around the league opting out due to COVID-19 concerns, it makes sense to have depth at this most important position just in case bodies become an issue.
