Andy Reid says Clyde Edwards-Helaire reminds him of familiar name

Clyde Edwards-Helaire is set to be a major piece for Kansas City’s offense in 2020

While the Chiefs received the rough news starting running back Damien Williams is opting out of the 2020 season due to the coronavirus, Kansas City fans are able to sleep at night knowing they’ve got quite the talent ready to take on a prominent role in the offense.

This past spring, the Chiefs used their first-round pick on LSU speedster Clyde Edwards-Helaire, immediately making the team even more explosive. For people who need even more reason to get excited about Edwards-Helaire’s upcoming rookie season, leave it to Andy Reid to get that job done for you.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid says rookie running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire reminds him of Eric Bieniemy

Edwards-Helaire reminds Reid of a young Eric Bieniemy? That’s music to everyone’s ears. Go ahead and just get the Super Bowl parade ready for next winter if Reid is saying this, because there’s no way anyone will be able to take down the Chiefs after what Reid said.

“I think when you get to know him, he reminds me of Eric Bieniemy when Eric was young,” Reid said during a recent interview on 610 Sports Radio in Kansas City. “I had him in Philadelphia toward the end of his career there. But I competed against him, we all did, we all saw that from Missouri and Kansas when he played at Colorado. He’s wired that same way, where he’s mature for his age.”

Bieniemy is entering his third season as the Chiefs’ offensive coordinator. Before he was donning a headset on the sidelines, though, he was a stud running back for the University of Colorado and went on to spend nine seasons in the NFL.

Expectations are going to be high for Edwards-Helaire during his rookie year, but Reid most definitely has all the trust in his young running back to deliver.
