The Kansas City Chiefs decided to extend Travis Kelce, keeping their core together.
The Kansas City Chiefs are fresh off a Super Bowl victory that could kick off a dynasty, and Chiefs fans have to feel even more optimistic going into 2020.
Quarterback Patrick Mahomes and defensive tackle Chris Jones both agreed to long-term contracts during the offseason. Brett Veach’s next order of business was signing Travis Kelce, and didn’t take him long to sign the star tight end.
Kelce and the Chiefs agreed to a four-year contract extension that will keep him in Kansas City for the next six seasons, per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.
Fowler is also reporting that the money is slightly less than the contract that San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle signed earlier today, citing the fact Kelce is in his 30s as a major contributing factor.

Kelce has been a perfect tight end for Andy Reid, making five straight Pro Bowls and earning two first-team All-Pro selections, all the while topping 862 yards receiving in every season except his rookie year. He might not be as good a blocker as Kittle, but he is without a doubt the best receiving tight end in the game.
In addition to Mahomes, Jones, and Kelce’s contracts, Kansas City also locked up wide receiver Tyreek Hill last season. Rather than parting with some stars in order to make room for Mahomes’ mega-contract, Kansas City was able to retain nearly all of their stars, laying the foundation for what could become the premier team of the next decade. A tip of the cap to Veach and the front office is warranted.
Not only is the league’s marquee attraction in Mahomes locked up for the future, but Veach has also managed to sign Kansas City’s star tight end, No, 1 wide receiver, and best defensive player within the span of two offseasons. Thanks to Veach, master drafter and cap wizard extraordinaire, the Chiefs are set up to feast on the AFC West for the next half-decade, at least.
