Tre’Davious White not opting out is a game-changer for the Bills

Tre’Davious White has already proven himself as one of the NFL’s best players.

Bills fans should be counting their blessings after Tre’Davious White decided not to opt-out of the 2020 NFL season last week. White hinted that he was considering opting out, but he will play for the Bills in 2020.

Since White entered the league in 2017, he’s been a difference-maker for the Bills on defense. At 25, he’s already proven himself as one of the NFL’s best cornerbacks. Last season, he totaled six interceptions, which was tied for most in the league. He also earned his first All-Pro selection.

Last season, PFF gave White the fourth-best coverage grade in the NFL. He finished with 17 passes defensed and 58 tackles. Most impressively, the cornerback didn’t give up a touchdown for the entire regular season.

White was a crucial part of a Bills defense that ranked second in the NFL last season. The Bills boast one of the NFL’s strongest secondaries, with an elite safety duo in Jordan Poyer and Micah Hyde. The Bills caused opposing quarterbacks all kinds of problems in 2019, allowing the fourth-fewest passing touchdowns in the NFL.

The Bills will have their best chance at a division title in years this season

With Tom Brady leaving the division, the Bills are looking to take home their first AFC East title since 1995. If that is to happen, White will need to be just as good as he was in 2019, which we all expect from him at this point.

Offensively, the Bills went out and traded for Stefon Diggs this offseason. Diggs will be a bonafide No. 1 receiver for an offense that clearly needed one and will add an entirely new edge to the team as a whole.

Overall, Bills fans dodged a bullet with White opting in. He is their most important player on defense and a difference-maker for each and every snap.
