Chiefs tease a very exciting addition to Arrowhead Stadium

Arrowhead Stadium will be adding some decorations prior to the regular-season opener.

The Kansas City Chiefs are less than two weeks away from hosting the Houston Texans in the NFL’s 2020 season opener.

That distinction always goes to the team who won the Super Bowl, which Kansas City did back in February when defeating the San Francisco 49ers. Prior to the opener, the Chiefs social media team decided to tease their fanbase with an announcement on Friday.

Kansas City posted a video of an aerial camera shot panning away from Arrowhead Stadium with the caption, “A New Addition., Saturday Aug. 29” The announcement was vague, but ESPN’s Adam Teicher revealed that the Chiefs will be raising their Super Bowl championship banner at the end of practice and will do the same during their season opener on Sept. 10.

Chiefs flaunting their championship ahead of season opener

With NFL training camp altered due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the usual influx of fans can’t attend team practices. Not to mention, there will be no preseason games whatsoever. So, the Chiefs decided to reward the diehard fanbase with the raising of their banner via Twitter.

The Chiefs did the easy thing by hoisting the Lombardi Trophy down in Miami, but the hard part was retaining their core players to become the NFL’s next dynasty. The challenge was accepted by general manager Brett Veach, and did he every accomplish it.

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes was signed to a $500 million, but team-friendly, contract extension. That allowed the Chiefs to lock in stud defensive tackle Chris Jones to a four-year, $80 million contract and tight end Travis Kelce to a four-year, $57 million extension.

The impossible truly became possible after those deals were signed, sealed and delivered.

Now, the Chiefs enter the upcoming season as the heavy favorites to represent the AFC at Super Bowl LV in Tampa, Fla. But before they do that, they’ll have their final Super Bowl LIV celebration. All of the fans won’t be there in person, but they’ll be there virtually.
