Patrick Mahomes might be able to add another record to his collection.
The last two years have been incredibly kind to Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, both personally and professionally. Mahomes capped off arguably the best two-season stretch in football history, as he won an MVP and Super Bowl in back-to-back seasons before proposing to his long-time girlfriend and earning himself an earth-shattering deal that could be worth as much as $503 million by the end of it.
As he gears up for a 2020 season in which he’ll try to defend his title, Mahomes has yet another passing record in his crosshairs. If Mahomes reached 10,000 career passing yards within his first 35 pro games, he’ll be the first player in NFL history to accomplish that.
Patrick Mahomes has all the tools to put together another record-breaking season
In just 31 starts, the former Texas Tech star has piled up 9,412 yards and 76 touchdowns, all the while becoming one of the faces of the league due to his otherworldly arm talent and charismatic personality. Combining Mahomes’ arm talent and flair for improvisation with Andy Reid’s keen schematic eye has been a match made in heaven for Kansas City.
Mahomes’ first challenge in his first season defending a title will come against Deshaun Watson and the Houston Texans. The Texans’ pass defense isn’t exactly up there with the 70’s Steelers, so Mahomes might be able to get off to a hot start in 2020 against new defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver’s secondary.
Mahomes still has his bazooka of a right arm, Reid at the controls, and one of the best collections of skill position players in the league. As long as that combination stays intact, Mahomes might break more than just one record this season.
