The Los Angeles Rams locked up Robert Woods long-term.
The Los Angeles Rams have not only drafted wisely over the last decade, but they have added some key pieces via trades and free agency. After securing two of those additions for the foreseeable future in star cornerback Jalen Ramsey and wide receiver Cooper Kupp, Sean McVay and Les Snead were at it again today, agreeing to a contract with wide receiver Robert Woods despite the fact that they are running out of financial wiggle room.
The Rams signed another building block by inking Woods to a four-year contract. The deal has $32 million guaranteed, and it can be worth as much as $68 million.
Robert Woods has become a star since coming back home to LA
Woods, a Southern California high school legend who went on to star for USC, was drafted in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills. While he put up solid numbers next to some poor quarterbacks, he exploded when he agreed to join McVay and his hometown Rams. Taking turns leading the team in catches with Kupp, Woods has topped 1,130 yards in each of the last two seasons, totaling eight touchdowns in that span. With his speed and sure hands over the middle, it’s easy to see why Jared Goff likes to feed him so frequently.
The Rams’ Twitter account was just as confused as the rest of the league was, as they continue to lock up building blocks for the future despite the fact that they appear to be running low on cap space.
Since they’re playing in one of the toughest divisions in the league, LA knows that they need to keep their stars to stay relevant both in the NFC West and the crowded Los Angeles sports market. Signing Woods confirms that their wide receiver depth chart will be lethal for the next half-decade.
