Joe Burrow has been better in fantasy than Lamar Jackson so far

Yes, Joe Burrow has been better in fantasy thus far over Lamar Jackson.

Even though they both are Heisman Trophy fraternity brothers, they are now division rivals in the AFC North. In his first year with the Cincinnati Bengals, Joe Burrow tries to change his franchise’s fortunes. In his second full-season as the Baltimore Ravens starter, Lamar Jackson has his team set on winning its third Super Bowl in franchise history. Who has been better in fantasy football?

The Fantasy Footballers brought to our attention an interesting anomaly though the first three weeks of the 2020 NFL season. Somehow, it is Burrow who has been the better fantasy quarterback through the September slate. He has averaged 61.2 fantasy points thus far, while Jackson has only netted on average 59.2. It’s not a huge discrepancy, but it’s certainly something.

This might have more to do with Burrow playing an additional quarter in Week 3, as his Bengals tied the Philadelphia Eagles on the road last week. However, Jackson’s abysmal performance on Monday Night Football vs. the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs is a big contributing factor, too. He cost the Ravens a shot at win, and probably ruined your fantasy team.

By no means is this sustainable, but Joe Burrow should keep getting better.

If you think Burrow will hold off Jackson as the better fantasy quarterback this year, stop kidding yourself. That’s not to say Burrow can’t emerge as a viable starting option for you as the season progresses, but the dual-threat playmaking ability of Jackson makes him a bona fide top-10 fantasy quarterback in most leagues. However, Burrow does seem to have it at the position.

Baltimore may three-peat in the AFC North or at the very least make the AFC playoffs as a Wild Card team this season. The Ravens are too talented to not be a top-seven team in the AFC this year. Anything less than that would be a huge embarrassing failure for John Harbaugh. However, the Bengals might be able to win more than a few games this season if Burrow progresses.

No, he’s not going to throw for 60 touchdowns and approach 6,000 passing yards like he did with the 2019 LSU Tigers. But in terms of winning NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, that is very much play for “The Geauxt”. Should Burrow remain a slightly better fantasy quarterback than Jackson over the next few weeks, that will be a huge surprise to all of us and that will matter a ton.
