Michael Thomas is trying to shoot down speculation that he is a problem in New Orleans
Sean Payton, Drew Brees, and the New Orleans Saints pulled out a late win against the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday Night Football, and they did so without the help of star receiver Michael Thomas, who was suspended after allegedly punching defensive back CJ Gardner-Johnson. In his usual vague ways, Thomas took to Twitter in an attempt to clear his name.
After tweeting out “you ain’t a snake but they will make you” earlier, Thomas claimed he isn’t going to “clear no rumors up” amid all the speculation about his behavior.
Thomas, who has played in just one game this season after setting a record for catches in a season with 149 last year, also claimed that he was not healthy, and he just wanted to help the Saints get a win against Justin Herbert and the Chargers before they started their Week 6 bye.
Michael Thomas is becoming a bit of a headache for the Saints
Thomas’ ability to get separation at the line of scrimmage is deadly, but if he suddenly turns into Earl Thomas and starts becoming a physical threat, New Orleans could remove him from their long-term plans.
The Athletic’s Jeff Duncan reported that the Thomas suspension was due to him talking back to Payton and the coaching staff. Where there’s smoke, there’s fire, and his propensity for suddenly popping off on emotional tirades lends credence to the theory that Thomas might be a bit of a handful behind the scenes.
The Saints are tied to Thomas for the next half-decade, so they’re stuck with the talented, yet apparently bombastic, wide receiver. If Payton can reign him in on a regular basis, these outbursts could be a thing of the past.
