Patrick Mahomes reaction to Le’Veon Bell signing should excite Chiefs fans

If Patrick Mahomes likes you, that’s a pretty good sign.

There’s a party happening in the “Gateway to the Southwest”, and all of Chiefs Kingdom is invited. With the recent signing of running back Le’Veon Bell, the defending Super Bowl Champions have only enhanced their status as the front-runner to repeat in 2020. But while fans are pumped, perhaps the most excited for Bell’s arrival is the team’s most valuable player.

Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes made his thoughts clear on social media Thursday on Bell’s signing with the franchise. Taking to Twitter, the former 2019 MVP welcomed the three-time Pro Bowler with open arms and gave the NFL a hidden message in the process.

The face of the NFL is pleased with Bell new

Bell, who was released by the New York Jets Tuesday after the team failed to find a training partner, will bring value to a backfield that has missed a secondary runner. While rookie Clyde-Edwards-Helarie raced out of the gate with 138 yards in the season opener, the LSU product has yet to surpass 70 yards in the previous four games. Secondary running back Damien Williams opted out at the start of the season due to the COVID19 pandemic.

The two-time All-Pro made a name for himself as one of the more versatile backs during his five-year stay with the Pittsburgh Steelers. From 2013-18, Bell tallied 5,336 rushing yards, 2,660 receiving yards, 381 receptions, and 46 touchdowns before signing a four-year, $52.5 million contract with the Jets in 2019.

Bell, 28, now joins the No.2 ranked DVOA offense, according to Football Outsiders. For Mahomes, it adds another weapon to an arsenal that features Edwards-Helarie, Tyreek Hill, Travis Kelce, Sammy Watkins, and DeMarcus Robinson.

As for Bell, who agreed to terms on a one-year, he will have the chance to rebound in a system better suited for his dual-threat mentality.

On the year, Mahomes has thrown for 1,474 yards, 13 touchdowns, and one interception. The 4-1 Chiefs are set to face the 4-1 Buffalo Bills on Monday night. Reid has yet to comment on if Bell will be active for his first game in a new uniform.
