Josh Allen almost got bailed out by an awful flag on the Chiefs
Monday afternoon football between two of the best teams in the league in the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs sounds like a dream come true, but it took all of one quarter for the dream to almost turn into a nightmare for Chiefs fans thanks to one of the worst flags we’ve seen thrown all year.
Chiefs safety Juan Thornhill made a great play on the ball to force an incomplete pass after Josh Allen went deep downfield for John Brown on a flea-flicker. While this play was inexplicably flagged for pass interference, the flag was since rescinded. The play ultimately proved to be a major boost for Kansas City, as it kept Buffalo out of the end zone and led a touchdown drive that was capped off by Patrick Mahomes finding Travis Kelce.
The Chiefs defense needs all the help they can get against Allen
The Chiefs’ defense was shredded to pieces by Derek Carr and the Las Vegas Raiders in a surprising Week 5 loss, and facing someone that might end up as a All-Pro in Allen isn’t exactly the best medicine. However, Tyrann Mathieu and that secondary appear to have responded well as they try to neutralize the advantage of Allen’s big arm.
Thornhill, who himself is working his way back from an injury, has been emerging as one of the best deep-cover safeties in all of football despite his relative inexperience. He doesn’t need some refereeing malpractice to sully his reputation.
With a steady rain falling in Buffalo, deep shots might be few and far between. Removing that element from Buffalo’s offense might be enough to swing momentum fully in Kansas City’s favor.
