The Eagles are getting healthy ahead of their game vs. the Cowboys.
Carson Wentz and the Philadelphia Eagles’ offense has struggled to find consistency in 2020. That could be changing in their favor for the second half of the season with positive news entering Sunday’s outing.
Philadelphia is expected to activate wide receiver Jalen Reagor, tight end Dallas Goedert and offensive lineman Jason Peters ahead of Sunday’s showdown against the Dallas Cowboys. Defensively, the team will add linebacker T.J. Edwards and safety Rudy Ford for the struggling unit as well.
Reagor, the team’s first-round pick last April, has been on the injured reserve with a thumb injury since Week 2. The TCU product started his Eagles’ career on a semi-decent path, hauling in five catches for 95 yards and averaging 19.1 yards per catch.
Goedert, the team’s secondary tight end, will be an essential part of the passing game with the struggles of the team’s receiver. The third-year tight end has been out since Week 3 after suffering a fractured ankle against the Cincinnati Bengals. Expected to be out longer, this is a big win for Philadelphia’s lackluster passing attack and adding depth at a position that’s limited.
The Eagles will still be without two stars
The two offensive pieces will need to pull their weight against the abomination that is Dallas’ defense. The Eagles will still be without tight end Zach Ertz and running back Miles Sanders, thus turning to Goedert and a running back by committee approach for the race to first place in the NFC East.
Sanders (knee) hasn’t played since Week 6 against Pittsburgh but is expected to return barring any setbacks for Week 10 following the team’s bye. Ertz, who was in speculation of being traded at the NFL deadline next week, could miss more time than expected after being placed on the IR with a high ankle sprain.
Reagor might not have as much pressure such as Goedert, but the expectations are for him to be a future star pass-catcher. With DeSean Jackson and Alshon Jeffery out, Wentz has built a budding connection with Travis Fulgham, but little production elsewhere. Entering Week 8, Fulgham and Greg Ward Jr. are the only two receivers with over 20 catches on the season.
Peters might be returning to his natural left tackle position after being upgraded to the active roster. A nine-time Pro Bowl blindside protector, Peters was asked to play guard at the beginning of the season before suffering a toe injury.
