The Chicago Bears somehow have more major offensive line injuries
Nick Foles, Matt Nagy, and the Chicago Bears, fresh off a loss against the Saints, might have a 5-3 record at this point, but they are far from an intimidating bunch for opposing defenses. The offensive line remains one of the worst in the league at full strength, and the Tennessee Titans might be able to take on this team without several starters.
Right tackle Bobby Massie was placed on injured reserve, sidelining their starting right tackle for the immediate future. Right guard Germain Ifedi and backup tackle Jason Spriggs are also in doubt for the Bears’ game this week, as they were placed on the COVID-19 list. In response, rookie Lachavious Simmons has been promoted from the practice squad.
The Bears will take on the 6-2 Titans without most of their starting offensive line
Ifedi and Massie haven’t exactly been Hall of Famers on the offensive line this season, but they are at least veteran NFL starters that won’t completely embarrass themselves. Chicago starting a rookie like Simmons could turn out to be a disaster if he is unable to handle the jump from Tennessee State to the NFL.
Not only is the Bears’ offensive line substandard, but their roster construction means that it’s painfully obvious how bad this line is. David Montgomery continues to remain a below-average running back due to their poor run-blocking, and an immobile quarterback like Foles will always struggle when facing constant pressure up the middle.
The Bears are 5-3 right now and in possession of a nasty defense that can take the to the playoffs, but their offense has fallen flat on its face in the last few weeks, and taking guys off the taxi squad to start against a playoff team isn’t a traditional recipe for success.
